Last week I shared a short story about the love that happened between Dave and Monica here. Today, I’d like to recount the simple yet special wedding that they had. Dave and Monica decided to have their Civil Wedding a few days after their pre-wedding session. It was my first time to attend and cover such event.
What inspired me about them was the simplicity and yet the significance of having the commitment to love and hold each other through the ups and downs of life. Dave and Monica boldly decided to have that kind of commitment, having God as the center of their marriage.
Their after wedding celebration was very special for me too because I remember the own Civil Wedding of my Papa and Mama. Their old wedding photos showed a simple wedding where my Mama looked so divine in her very chic white dress and my Papa as suave as he was in his barong. Their wedding celebration wasn’t anything grand but it was at one of the hotels where special people in their lives were seated at a long table with them.
I believe that the success of a marriage won’t be based on how simple or grand your wedding and reception are going to be. I think that it will always depend on how much you’re committed to love and hold each other until death do you part, even in times when you don’t feel in love with each other. I believe that true commitment is beyond any feelings. It’s deciding to love even when it hurts. It’s deciding to make the sacrifices and even losing yourself so you can love, forgive, and love some more.
Every time I remember about my Papa and Mama’s marriage, which lasted for 38 years until my Mama’s homecoming to the Lord, I just couldn’t help but rejoice and be proud of them on how they were able to decide to really stick with each other through thick and thin (literally and figuratively speaking – as their bodies, environment and other things changed). Today, I pray for the same kind of marriage and commitment to Dave and Monica. May their love for each other be filled with so much grace and a testimony that love can really last. Love knows no distance, time nor space. Enjoy their photos below.
